The secretive 0110 from Latvia return with the double single 'Stillness'. For those of you who love chilled synths and soundtracks the likes of the game Stellaris, and other sci-fi media.. This one is for you.
Believe me, this one is truly quite special!
I've covered 0110's great album 'S*cker Punch' previously which you can find HERE

.Death.
.Synth.
.Repeat. Released May 30th The guitars on 'Stillness IV' are from a friend's friend called Christian Trempe, guitarist of Montreal (Canada) based mathrock band called "Magnolia Noire" The cover Photo is by Yusuke Sumita (He's the founder, and guitarist of the Japanese pioneer brutal Death metal band, Defiled - on Season of Mist) Yusuke took this photo from the plane's window while on tour, I thought it fitted quite well with these 2 tracks!

Review
'Stillness I' is deceptively complex with its gradual layering of harmonious tones.
Starting with the electric buzz of synths, to the addition of serene piano, which then speeds up as the drums add depth overall.
That's all just in the first third of the track. It comes back again slowly, gradually adding more and more atmospheric layers giving it a cinematic scope of wonder and amazement at whatever environment that comes to the mind of the listener.
For me 0110 keeps bringing my imagination back to grand visions of space, and the wider cosmos.
For a track titled Stillness, the initial phase of the song grants very much that sensation though quickly becomes busier in tempo and instrumentation giving a sense of contradiction to the term of Stillness.
I think there is a magic to this contradiction.
Finding the wonder in what at first seems quiet, like a woodland, only to look closer and see the infinite amount of complexity and life moving all around if you take the time to notice it, in that sense, life and the world around us, no matter how seemingly tranquil - is a celebration of complexity that is anything but 'Still'.
It's nice to see the equipment used in the YouTube videos for the tracks and to see their full list of equipment used for the tracks in the description too..
'Stillness IV' is a whole different beast, it still very much has that beginning of serenity and creeps subtly in to a much more layered and powerful track in due time.
The first descriptor that comes to mind is post rock. If you've listened to bands like Explosions in the Sky, MONO, God Is An Astronaut or the likes, then you'll know what I mean with the wonderful and intelligent guitar that gives deep meaning to the feel of the overall track.
Though quite importantly, this track has a strong sense of sythnwave to it, and I don't think I've heard a mix of synthwave and post rock together like this before, there's perhaps a new genre altogether here potentially? Post wave maybe? I don't think that's a genre yet but that's what I want to call this. I must mention of course that the guitar is Djent in nature too! It is rich in emotional and tonal complexity whilst still providing a decent tempo, recharging energy, and brings a smile to your face as you listen that you couldn't stop even if you tried. The drums and guitar at 4.44... OFFFF powerful and gorgeous stuff. I LOVE this and I'm so glad to have been introduced to it!
Conclusion
This double single from 0110 (and Magnolia Noir) brings the potential of a whole new genre mixing synthwave and post rock, it is a gloriously cinematic experience and really shows the potential for 0110 to become a much wider known name across our scene in time.
These two tracks are a beautiful addition to the chillout aspect of our beloved genres that is sorely lacking. (It's not often you can chillout to alternative electronic music, but these tracks hit that sweet spot perfectly.)
This release is like a huge breath of fresh air that finds it's way through a bedroom window at an ideal moment, the smell of flowers in the rain; or the sense of profound connection to an art piece in a gallery that catches your eye.
Brilliant stuff!
