Single Review: Kuro - Obscene

It is the season of both death and re-birth, of long dark nights of terror set amongst days of peaceful reflection and hope towards the future. The latest release from Kuro perfectly fits this vibe.

There is a hell of a lot of anger in it towards the people that turn their noses up at the LGBTQIA+ scene and towards the way the community is treated.

In that sense it also has a slightly spooky feel with the horror that a lot of our community have to go through regularly, especially growing up. Yet it is tracks and artists like this that help prove no one is ever alone and that there is hope for the future as people fight back and the younger generations do so with greater strength than ever before. As well as that, the band is putting all proceeds from the track to LGBT good causes.

Get this track added to your Halloween party playlists, it deserves it!

Electro-metal project from Glasgow, UK. Filled with angst, energy and eyeliner.

THIS IS OUR ANGST SONG FOR ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE GROWN UP BEING SEGREGATED, ABUSED AND PUNISHED FOR BEING DIFFERENT. THIS GOES OUT TO THE ALTERNATIVE, LGBT, TRANS AND ANYBODY WHO DOESN'T FIT THE NORM.

ALL PROCEEDS FROM THIS TRACK GO TO LGBT CAUSES.

Review:

The song is heavy on the lyrics and Kuro does a great job of keeping them free flowing throughout poetically. The weight and poignancy of the message is clear and almost as brutal as the guitar riffs. The electro twinge to those guitars alleviates it becoming too metal heavy and strikes a wonderful balance of easy listening guitar riffs that otherwise would be at home in the heaviest of metal bands. That is a real nice juxtaposition.

Angst is probably the best word for the track overall.

'Obscene' is a wonderful dance filled rave of angsty electronic metal power that threatens to tear off faces or dancefloor bootlaces depending on which side of the political curve you stand.

Those in the community or who are allies with find this to be a fierce A.F anthem - a warcry of support and strength. For everyone else.. it's a threat, get off the wrong side of history or be thrown in to the void.

The drums pound out an energetic rhythm that are enhanced beautifully by the electronics at the 37 second mark and I wish there was a lot more of those thrown in throughout because that would have turned the rest of the track in to one hell of a rave track.

As it stands 'Obscene' is a track made for the darkest of scenes, where those in each others company, understand one another's suffering. This track belongs in a new Crow or spawn film for sure with is almost early 90's dark rock feel.

Kuro's message is clear, your hatred wont stop us, we will just grow stronger.

8/10
